All Ceramic Crowns
With our investment in Advanced Dental Technology we have the ability to mill our own ceramic crowns in our office so our patients can have their smiles restored to their natural strength and beauty more quickly with less time between appointments. Dental crowns are a great way to strengthen a tooth that is severely broken down. Crowns are made from ceramics, metal, or a combination of ceramics and metal (PFM). Due to advances in material and techniques, Dr. Johnson recommends most dental crowns be made of a very strong all ceramic material called Zirconia. These metal free crowns can be fabricated in two separate ways. For maximum strength, solid zirconia crowns are best for chewing. Layered zirconia is best for front teeth where maximum aesthetics is desired. In general, modern all ceramic crowns are very strong, have no metal, and give the most aesthetic results. Traditional Dental Crowns
On occasion there is an indication for a crown to be made of material other than zirconia or ceramic. These include materials such as Gold, base metal, or the traditional Porcelain fused to metal (PFM). Dr. Johnson will discuss all crown options that are indicated for your specific needs and indications.
