Root Canals

Aliso Viejo Root Canals

Root canal therapy, also known as endodontic therapy, is used to save a natural tooth where the pulp of the tooth has become infected and inflamed.

There are many signs and symptoms one may experience that could indicate the need for endodontic therapy.  If you have any of the following symptoms call us at (949) 831-1946 or Request an Appointment.

•   Spontaneous sharp or dull pain
•   Throbbing pain
•   Pain while chewing
•   Swelling of the cheeks and neck areas
•   Small pimple like bump on the gums
•   Pain to the surrounding facial tissues when light to moderate pressure is applied

On occasion, a tooth may not exhibit any pain when the nerve gets infected and there will be absolutely no immediate signs and symptoms. However, a tooth that is in need of endodontic therapy will eventually manifest itself in some form or another. Therefore, the need for endodontic therapy may only be discovered on a routine dental exam.

A correct diagnosis of the tooth is critical to the success of this therapy and Dr. Johnson and his team are able to use Advanced Dental Technology to ensure a proper diagnosis. Once a proper diagnosis is reached all treatment options will be discussed. If it is determined that endodontic therapy is the treatment of choice based on the best evidence, then quality endodontic therapy will be delivered by either Dr. Johnson himself or one of his endodontic specialists.

The goal of this therapy is to remove the infected pulp, disinfect the inside of the tooth, and place a material that promotes healing of the surrounding tissues that help support the tooth. All endodontically treated teeth will require the lost tooth structure to be replaced and the root canals sealed for the long-term success of the therapy. The tooth can then be restored to give an enhanced natural appearance and establish proper function.
